Men Health

Men may be catching up to women in lifespan. The life-expectancy gap between men and women has shrunk to 5.2 years, the narrowest since 1946. But men still need to pay more attention to their health. Why?

Compared to women, men are more likely to:

  • Smoke and drink more, and generally lead less healthy lifestyles
  • Put off routine checkups and even ignore symptoms of a health problem
  • Join in fearless, risky, and dangerous behaviors

Working-aged men also are less likely than women to have a regular doctor.

The good news is that many of the diseases and health conditions that men face can be prevented — or treated if they are found early. To start taking better care of your health, learn about your risk factors. Risk factors are things in your life that increase your chances of getting a certain disease. Some risk factors you cannot change, such as your age or family history. But many are in your control. Find out what you can do to lower your risk factors and improve your overall health. Next, find out how often you should see a doctor for routine checkups and what screenings, tests, and vaccines you might need. By taking these steps, you will feel good knowing you are doing all you can to take charge of your health.

Funny and Jokes

ittle Janice was not the best student in Sunday school. Usually she slept through class. One day the teacher called on her while she was napping, “Tell me Janice, who created the universe?” When Janice didn’t stir, little Johnny, a boy seated in the chair behind her, took a pin and jabbed her in the rear.

God Almighty!” shouted Janice and the teacher said, “Very good” and Janice fell back asleep.

A while later the teacher asked Janice, “Who is our Lord and Saviour.” But, Janice didn’t even stir from her slumber. Once again, Johnny came to the rescue and stuck her again.

Jesus Christ!” shouted Janice and the teacher said, “Very good,” and Janice fell back asleep.

Then the teacher asked Janice a third question. “What did Eve say to Adam after she had her twenty-third child?” and again, Johnny jabbed her with the pin.

This time Janice jumped up and shouted, “If you stick me with that thing one more time, I’ll break it in half and stick it up your ass!

… the teacher fainted!

Can I make my breasts larger?

Although many products (from special creams to exercise techniques) claim to boost breast size, you should save your money: They don't work. Your breasts may still grow and change, or they may have reached their final size. Some girls are happier with their appearance when they wear padded bras. Others find that certain styles of tops and dresses are more flattering than others.

Everyone goes through times when they don't like parts of their bodies. These feelings are part of normal development and the process of adjusting to our changing bodies. Even girls with large breasts can be unhappy about them. Some find that their backs or shoulders hurt or that the large breasts attract unwanted attention and they may wish their breasts were smaller.

After development is complete, the only way to permanently change breast size is through cosmetic surgery, which comes with its own physical and psychological risks.

If you're concerned about the size or development of your breasts, talk to your doctor or gynecologist.

Am I still a virgin if I use a tampon?

Some girls worry that if they use tampons, they will no longer be virgins. The truth is, a virgin is someone who has never had sexual intercourse. Inserting a tampon is definitely not the same as having sex!

So why do girls ask this question so often? Girls who are virgins usually have a hymen, a very thin piece of skin-like tissue that stretches partly across the opening of the vagina. A lot of people mistakenly think that a girl is only a virgin if her hymen has not been broken. Most of the time a girl's hymen breaks after having sex for the first time.

But a girl's hymen can tear in ways that have nothing to do with having sex. For example, it is possible that inserting a tampon might tear the hymen (although that usually doesn't happen). So even if a tampon does break a girl's hymen, she is still a virgin until she has had sexual intercourse

Interior Design

Interior design is a multi-faceted profession in which creative and technical solutions are applied within a structure to achieve a built interior environment. These solutions are functional, enhance the quality of life and culture of the occupants, and are aesthetically attractive. Designs are created in response to and coordinated with code and regulatory requirements, and encourage the principles of environmental sustainability.

The interior design process follows a systematic and coordinated methodology, including research, analysis and integration of knowledge into the creative process, whereby the needs and resources of the client are satisfied to produce an interior space that fulfills the project goals.[1]

The work of an interior designer draws upon many disciplines including environmental psychology, architecture, product design, and traditional decoration (aesthetics and cosmetics). They plan the spaces of almost every type of building including: hotels, corporate spaces, schools, hospitals, private residences, shopping malls, restaurants, theaters, and airport terminals. Today, interior designers must be attuned to architectural detailing including floor plans, home renovations, and construction codes. Some interior designers are architects as well.

hair style

Hair are worn straight. Streaking is quickly becoming an expression. Working women prefer either short hair, knotted hair or a nice and comfortable Joura. In parties or elsewhere, straight hair with waves of steps dancing along the shoulder portrays a carefree look of the Pakistani woman of the 90's.

How to become a fashion designer

You know you're destined to be a fashion designer if you: a) spent most of your childhood making clothes for your Barbie dolls instead of playing with your friends; b) read fashion magazines instead of your school books; c) ran a boutique out of your basement at age 10. In other words: if you want to be the next Yves Saint Laurent, it helps to be completely and utterly obsessed with fashion.

However, there are many aspects of the profession. Working as a fashion designer can just as well mean supervising a design team at a sportswear company as producing a label under your own name. Although the former career may not seem as glamorous as the latter, it certainly will make your life less stressful. To create your own label takes a lot of time, dedication and hard work. Not to mention living just above the poverty line for several years.

american hitoric buildings

The Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), and Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS) are programs of the National Park Service established for the purpose of documenting historic places. Records consists of measured drawings, archival photographs, and written reports. They are currently managed by the office of Heritage Documentation Programs.

In 1933 the Park Service established the Historic American Buildings Survey following a proposal by Charles E. Peterson, a young Park Service landscape architect. It was founded as a make-work program for architects, draftsmen and photographers left jobless by the Great Depression. Guided by field instructions from Washington, D.C., the first HABS recorders were tasked with documenting a representative sampling of America's architectural heritage. By creating an archive of historic architecture, HABS provided a data base of primary source material for the then fledgling historic preservation movement.

The Historic American Engineering Record program was founded on January 10, 1969 by the National Park Service and the American Society of Civil Engineers. HAER documents historic mechanical and engineering artifacts. Since the advent of HAER, the combined program is typically called "HABS/HAER". Today much of the work of HABS/HAER is done by student teams during the summer, or as part of college-credit classwork.

Fit body, tight budget

We'd all like a slim, toned body, but we can't all afford gym membership fees. However, there are lots of low cost ways to exercise and some of them are even free.

Walking

The most obvious form of exercise we can all do anytime anywhere is low impact, so the risk of injury is minimal and all you need is a comfortable pair of walking shoes. You can have a laugh walking with a mate or you can fit it into your daily schedule for example, walk part of the way to work. On a note of caution, always tell someone where you are going and do not walk on your own after dark. The same goes for running.

Jogging

Jogging and running are higher impact, so make sure you have a proper pair of running shoes. Again it's better with a friend, or a running club. If you are new to running start by jogging for one minute then walking for one minute and repeat for half an hour. After doing this three times a week for a week or two, increase to two minutes running, one minute walking. Keep increasing the amount of running at a comfortable level. Details of organized runs and running clubs can be found in magazines like Runners World.

Cycling

Look out for adverts for secondhand equipment and you can pick up an almost-new bike cheaply. You will need to make a one off investment in safety stuff, like a helmet and reflective stripe. Cycling is also a handy mode of transport and can save you a fortune in fares or petrol. You can do your weekly shop at Sainsburys with a rucksack then cycle home, intead of splashing out on taxis.

Behind the Collaboration

At the start of the summer, we learned about the collaborative project between Edwin and Folk. Blending a harmonious balance of respective talents, the product stemming from the meeting is designed to allow each brand a look at the others core offering. Shoes from Folk. Denim from Edwin. The first pieces from the collaboration will release next Spring. Rather than altering aesthetic, each aspect of the project is hinged on celebrating the shared ethos of craft and modern styling in both brands. With the shared work being revealed to the world at trade shows around the world we chatted with Edwin’s Creative Director, Rey Gautier, and Folk founder Cathal McAteer about the EdwinFolk exchange.

American Fashion Week

Aussie fashion week.jpg

We're lucky enough to have a few Aussies over at our U.K. fashion blog Catwalk Queen, and they've been keeping an eye on Australian Fashion Week for us.

One big story is that of Victoria's Secret model Miranda Kerr, who has already been hailed a role model by her peers.

"She is thin, but she's healthy and she's writing a book with her mum to help other girls overcome problems with body image," said Aussie Vogue editor, Kristie Clements.

Meanwhile on the catwalk, siblings Camilla & Marc (above, left) brought down the house with a sexy and slick show, featuring an emphasis on nipping everything at the waist.

Swimwear sensation Zimmerman, turned our attentions to long slouchy trousers and tulip skirts. And after a five-year hiatus, New Zealand designer Kate Sylvester marked her long-awaited return to Sydney with a fun and quirky collection that didn't disappoint. Titled Royally Screwed, Sylvester's homage to the rat pack of the royal family, brought high end pieces down to a more casual level.
